In Physical Science this week, our students have been working to test the effect of insulation during heating and cooling houses. Thanks to Santee Cooper, we've been able to model how energy and temperature are related. Traditionally, one of the most often asked questions is "how will we use this in the real world?" Having the opportunity to show a direct connection between what we've learned about electricity, cost, and energy to houses is awesome.
Students have been working in cooperative teams to test various conditions of their houses. During their downtime (while waiting to take another temperature reading), the students have been working on practicing conversions and calculating speed, which will be the focus of our next unit starting on Monday.
On Monday, your student will also get a rubric and letter about the Balloon Car Project. This project/lab will help your student practice building a model before they tackle their Amusement Park Ride project.
