This week in Physical Science we explored the similarities and differences between science inquiry and technical design. Since our curriculum has moved to a project based learning initiative, we have worked with our students to help them understand the concept and the expectations of this type of study. Although the students sometimes felt like they were just "playing", they were actually working through the process of designing and testing ideas.
In this first quarter, students will explore physics through amusement parks. To practice their brainstorming skills, they were tasked with creating a list of things that might go into making an amusement part. They then joined into small groups to build that list into a connected concept map that combined their thoughts. From there, we designed a class concept map to connect various components of our learning experiences, prior knowledge, and our introductory video.
